Yesterday, we spoke of the Hero’s journey, what the process is like, and that perhaps it is time to embark on your own personal hero’s journey.

As we embark on our journeys, we each have been given unique gifts for our journey, pretty much like how Galadriel was giving the Fellowship gifts before they leave Lothlórien in the Lord of the Rings Series.

The Gifts you have received

The journey we embark on may not be one that saves the world, but it will be one that is personally fulfilling and transforming.

We may not have been given the bow of the Galadhrim, daggers, Elven rope made of hithlain or other magically enchanted items, but we all have been given unique talents!  And one way to discover them is through the StrengthsFinder report.

Once you have identified the call, and have decided to embark on the journey, many of us do not realised that we have already been equipped with our unique talents, and even fewer still knows how to polish them until they become strengths in your quest. To do so, many of us may require assistance.

The second phase of the Hero’s Journey is “Assistance”. And there are several ways to get assistance for your journey.

  1. Get a mentor
Identify those who have experience in areas that you would like to learn more about, and ask to meet up with them.  You will be surprised how many people are willing to lend a helping hand when you ask.  Many may even feel honoured that you had taken the step of faith to seek their help.   Don’t just wait for the mentor to appear,  identify one and take the first step to ask.
  2. Form a Mastermind Group
A Mastermind group, according to Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich”, is described as “The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”  A Mastermind group helps to provide mutual support, different perspectives, shared resources, and accountability in achieving your goals.  Think of it as your personal advisory board, where you are also on someone else’s personal advisory board.   Read more about the 7 reasons to join a mastermind group in this Forbe’s Article.
  3. Engage a coach
A professional trained coach would be able to help you unearth insights about yourself, and embark on this amazing journey with you.  Coaching is not about fixing weakness, it’s about maximising your potential and increasing your peak performance.  Don’t expect coaching to be a magic pill that automatically solves all your problems.  A coach is there to provide you with insights, challenge your boundaries, expand your comfort zones, and keep you accountable.  The outcome – helping you being a better version of yourself, and equipping you with a more in-depth knowledge on how to leverage on your strengths.  Read more about the benefits of coaching here.

Whatever you choice is, take that first step today and get that assistance you need to complete your Hero’s Journey!
