One of the value of coaching is the “Aha!” moment a person gets during the coaching process.  And there have been several “Aha!” realisations that I’ve found were common during Strengths Coaching.

1. “I didn’t know that was a strength!”.   I recalled someone with the “Futuristic” Theme saying she didn’t know “daydreaming” was a strength; and another client said he didn’t think “Intellection” was a strength because he needed time out to think.  But realising how your talent theme gives you your unique power and edge is an extremely liberating process.

2. “I didn’t realise I was like that!”.  Our Signature Themes are so ingrained in us that we often do these things unconsciously.  And since these are unconscious behaviours, many times we do not realise it until it is pointed to us.  This brings what is subconscious up to the level of consciousness so that we can both appreciate it, and also proactively apply it to our daily tasks.

3. “Now I know how to describe myself!”.  Often times we tend to think we know ourselves, but yet struggle to articulate our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.  One common response I get from people is that, they have roughly know their own personalities and behaviours, but have been unable to describe it to other people clearly.  And now they can, because StrengthsFinder has given them clarity and the ability to describe it clearly to others.  And as every talent theme is very personal, through a discovery process, they are able clearly own how each talent theme plays out in their own lives.
