Gallup’s research shows that good leaders have the following in common that causes people to follow them:

  • Trust
  • Compassion
  • Stability
  • Hope
In this Tedtalk video, Simon Sinek speaks of how good leaders make their people feel safe. To do so, leaders make certain sacrifices, and causes the people to know that they are protected.  Out of that feeling of safety, these people are able to be more engaged, and contribute more sacrificially themselves.
I love how Simon makes mention of the following things:
  • Leadership is a choice
  • There are people at the top who are not leaders, they have authority.  But there are also many people who do not have authority but are definitely leaders.
  • Good leaders do not sacrifice people for numbers, they sacrifice numbers for people.
Listen to what Simon has to say, and decide if you are a leader by position or by choice.  And think about what you can do to make your people feel safe.
