In the previous post on Self-Assurance, we explored how people with high Self-Assurance are seen as risk-takers and are able to break mental barriers of possibilities because of their self-confidence.

One other aspect of Self-Assurance is that they can be extremely convincing because of the confidence they display.

Even when they are mistaken, they sound fully credible when stating their mistake because of the tone and confidence.  And, they can be extremely convincing even when they are not telling the truth (Which explains the Pinocchio picture).

Here is a story from a friend who is high in Self-Assurance.  He was had been attending a number of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Lessons, and after 4 lessons the club was collecting the dues.   He beckoned his friend and was making his way to the exit, when one of the seniors stopped him and asked if he had paid his fees.  With a demonstration of full confidence he said, with a nod of his head, “Yes, Of Course.”   The senior tried to confirm (perhaps he was somewhat suspicious) and asked “Are you sure?”.   To which my friend said, again with full confidence, “Yes, I’m sure! If you don’t believe me, you can ask the senior over there.”  The senior relented and let them leave.

Now, I’m not condoning lying, and escaping fees that are due!  But this is certainly an interest story that demonstrates the power and influence that a person with high Self-Assurance has on others.

I recall when I was making plans to start the StrengthsFinder Singapore Network, and I was speaking with another friend with high self-assurance.   Now, my friend then did not have an in-depth understanding of StrengthsFinder, and he promptly poured a bucket of cold water over the idea.  His confidence in my idea being not feasible did dampen my enthusiasm somewhat.  Thankfully, I went ahead with the idea, and my friend is now one of my strong supports and has even gone ahead to take his StrengthsFinder Assessment.

Do you know of people with high Self-Assurance?  Are you aware of how they influence you with what they say? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below.
